Michèl Yost was a Swiss-born clarinetist who spent his playing life in Paris. He was known as having a nimble and gentle tone and was a popular performer at the Concert Spirituel, one of the first public concert series. Michèl became so popular in Europe that his first name became something of a trademark.
This edition was derived from a manuscript copy of duets for two clarinets. In the process of preparing it, numerous obvious mistakes were discovered in the original and these have been corrected, mostly by comparing to a repeated section of the music where the error was not made. There were also articulations and dynamics that were either a part of the original edition, or added later by someone performing the piece. The marks I have placed take those into consideration, however, I felt free to make my own decisions about the playing style. You, the player, should also feel considerable freedom in making stylistic changes.
Although a score with both parts is provided, it would be difficult to use in a performance since there are several long repeats back to previous pages, and there are few opportunities for good page turns. In addition, I suggest the separate parts be printed so that pages are printed on one side and arranged side-by-side in order to accommodate the repeats.
