Lisa was born into a musical family in Lihue, Hawaii. Her first instrument was the piano and her first of three teachers was her mother. The flute came into her life in middle school when joining band class. She continued fluting after graduating high school and joined the college band. Having great piano skills and a good ear, accompanying soon became in huge demand, but it was her least favorite thing to do, to put it lightly. Because Kauai had no formal flute society, Lisa formed a flute choir that had twelve regular members. And because money was not in abundance at the time, she started arranging her own music for her group to play with her as conductor. It would only have been natural for her to pursue a career in music, but alas, Lisa has a practical side, and chose a career in accounting instead. However, when asked about what she does, her answer is that she is a musician.
Kauai had a moderately active music scene, and it allowed for Lisa to perform as a flutist somewhat regularly, although she was more known as an accompanist. She had two paid positions with choirs and also volunteered her time accompanying for many musicals...too many in her opinion. Wanting the opportunity to play the flute more, she moved to Portland, Oregon.
Today, Lisa is active in the Greater Portland Flute Society where she is a board member, a flutist in a flute quartet called Flutando, a flutist in the Lake Oswego Millennium Concert Band, and a singer in the ISing Community Choir. Former positions held were music director and accompanist for two churches and volunteer conducting for various instrumental and singing groups. She still plays the piano - but has happily "retired" as an accompanist. She works in the Finance Department for the Fire Department District, but still just considers herself a musician.
